Why I’m Sharing This Story
Many of my students — ambitious German learners and expats in Switzerland and Germany — tell me that learning German feels confusing and stressful. Between work, family, and daily life abroad, grammar rules like der, die, das can seem impossible to master.

When Matt first joined my online lessons in November 2023, he felt stuck, but he wanted to learn German, he wished to travel to Germany and speak with locals.
He had been trying to learn German for a while but couldn’t remember the genders of simple nouns or form sentences confidently. Speaking felt stressful. Writing took ages.
He told me, “I just can’t get der, die, das right — it’s so frustrating.”

Today, Matt speaks with much more confidence, is experimenting with German sentence structures, and uses newly learned vocabulary as well as the correct articles. Most importantly, he enjoys learning German, and he understands and speaks in conversations and texts on different everyday life topics and on more complex topics. 🎉✨
